Palliative care presents considerable challenges for the healthcare system in terms of management and monitoring, while geriatric cancer patients undergoing palliative treatment endure significant burdens. This review examines these issues and provides insights into their perspectives. Cancer predominantly affects the elderly population, who often encounter a distinct set of geriatric and palliative care challenges. Interventions specifically designed to address the unique geriatric and palliative care needs of older cancer patients may prove advantageous. A growing body of literature underscores the necessity to develop and evaluate such interventions. It is crucial that these interventions undergo rigorous assessment through randomized trials, as well as implementation and dissemination studies, to determine their efficacy, applicability, and effectiveness in advancing geriatric oncology care. We aim for this article to contribute to ongoing clinical and academic efforts to equip clinicians to effectively address the geriatric and palliative care needs of older adults with cancer, ultimately enhancing care delivery and patient outcomes.
