Abstract

The strong venom of Conus eburneus, a type of cone snail found in warm ocean waters, is known for affecting ion channels and receptors using various small proteins. The aim of this study was to test how toxic the venom of Conus eburneus is by using laboratory models, focusing on the amount that kills half of the sample (called LD50). To find out how the venom affects living mammal cells in a lab, the venom was separated and tested on different amounts. The study mainly looked at how many cells survived and how they changed in appearance. We used trypan blue tests and MTT tests to check how many cells survived and to see if their membranes were intact after being exposed to different amounts of venom for set periods of time.

The venom of Conus eburneus was shown to harm cells in a way that depends on the amount used; small amounts didn't affect the cells much, but larger amounts greatly reduced the number of healthy cells and caused clear changes in their shape, indicating that the cells were dying. Using graphs made from experimental data, we found the LD50 value, which is the amount of venom needed to kill half of the cells in a certain period of time. This study helps us learn more about how cone snail poison works and shows the harmful effects of the venom from Conus eburneus. Understanding the lowest dose of this venom that can harm 50% of test subjects (LD50) is important for figuring out how it could be used in medicine and for staying safe when working with or studying this type of animal. Future studies could explore more about how the poison from Conus eburneus affects cells and how its beneficial ingredients might be used in medicine.
