Abstract

This article focuses on the two aspects of yoga, namely the yoga asanas and kriyas to understand how they complement each other in the process of achieving a healthy and happy life. Incorporating the physical postures (asanas) with the cleansing processes (kriyas), the paper shows how the two improve the physical, mental and spiritual health of individuals. Explaining four kriyas – Trataka, Kapalbhati, Jal Neti, and Om Chanting – shows how they help in respiratory and digestive system disorders, in increasing mental focus and spiritual consciousness. The effects of asanas and kriyas are demonstrated to cleanse the body, decrease tension and depression, and help in the development of the connection with the higher self.
