Background: Cancer prevention through lifestyle changes, vaccination, and early detection is a global priority. Young adults (college students) are an important target group for preventive education because they can adopt healthy behaviours and influence families. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a Structured Teaching Programme (STP) on knowledge and attitudes regarding cancer prevention among college students in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
Methods: A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design was used. Hundred (n = 100) undergraduate students from selected college in Salem was recruited using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done by using a validated structured questionnaire assessing knowledge (scored) and attitude (Likert scale). The STP was a 60–90 minute interactive module covering major modifiable risk factors, screening/vaccination recommendations, and local resources. Pre-test was administered by the STP and a post-test after 7–10 days. Paired t-tests (for continuous scores) and McNemar/Chi-square tests (for categorical items) were used. Significance at p<0.05.
Expected results & Conclusion: We hypothesize statistically significant improvement in both knowledge and positive attitudes after the STP. Structured teaching is a low-cost, scalable approach to increase cancer prevention awareness among young adults and can be integrated into college health education programs.
