Background: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are one of the most debilitating complications of diabetes mellitus, often leading to prolonged hospitalization, infections, amputations, and reduced quality of life. Wound care is essential in preventing these outcomes, with dressing selection playing a critical role.
Objective: This study aims to compare the clinical outcomes of Eusol dressing and Betadine solution dressing in the treatment of DFUs among hospitalized patients in Jalgaon city. It also evaluates the influence of socio-demographic factors on wound healing outcomes.
Methods: A pre-experimental, two-group pretest-posttest design was conducted with 100 diabetic foot ulcer patients, randomly divided into two equal groups receiving either Eusol or Betadine dressings. Data on wound severity and patient demographics were collected using structured tools. Pre- and post-intervention scores were analyzed using paired t-tests and chi-square tests.
Results: Both dressing methods significantly improved clinical outcomes. However, the Eusol group showed a more marked reduction in wound severity scores. Associations between clinical outcomes and demographic variables, including age, gender, education, lifestyle, and disease history, were also statistically significant (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Eusol dressing was more effective in improving wound healing outcomes than Betadine. This study supports the adoption of Eusol as a superior alternative for managing diabetic foot ulcers.
