Abstract

Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune condition affecting the oral mucous membranes, characterized by white, lace-like patches, red inflamed areas, and painful erosive lesions that can significantly impact quality of life. While the exact etiology remains unclear, OLP is believed to result from immune-mediated attacks on the oral mucosa, potentially triggered by genetic, environmental, or stress-related factors. This condition, predominantly affecting middle-aged women, requires comprehensive management due to its potential association with an increased risk of oral cancer.

The clinical management of OLP spans multiple systems of medicine, including Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Allopathy, Naturopathy, and Unani medicine. Allopathy primarily focuses on symptomatic relief using corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and pain management strategies while monitoring for malignant transformation. Ayurveda adopts a holistic approach, emphasizing detoxification, dosha balance, and immune modulation through Panchakarma therapies and herbal remedies such as Guduchi and Neem. Homeopathy addresses the systemic and constitutional aspects of OLP using individualized remedies like Arsenicum Album and Mercurius Solubilis.
