Study of Awareness about Arsenic Contamination in Bhojpur District.

The present research has been done to assess the level of awareness among people of Bhojpur district of Bihar state about arsenic pollution in water. To complete this research, Questionnaire method, focused group discussion and short interview method have been used. To complete this research work, four villages of Koilwar block named Rajapur, Manikpur, Inglishpur Daulatpur and Simaria Ojha Patti village of Shahpur block have been selected by purposive sampling method. 30-30 people from all five villages have been selected by purposive sampling method and personal interviews of 150 people have been taken. Also, group discussions were conducted by forming three groups of 10 people each in every village. The data obtained shows that 88% of the people know that the underground water of their village is arsenic polluted due to which 52% of the people are dependent on government supply water. 26.6% people buy mineral water from the market and drink it. Also, 52% people know that arsenic causes black spots on the body. In this research work, an attempt has been made to include people of all age groups of the society, people with different educational qualifications and women. This research work concludes that the awareness about arsenic in the arsenic affected area of Bhojpur district is satisfactory.
