Abstract

Northeast India's diverse tapestry of ethnicities and cultures faces significant transformation in contemporary times, impacting its rich folklore traditions. This research paper investigates these transformations, employing folklore studies as a lens to understand how the region grapples with emerging issues. By analysing how folklore reflects and responds to challenges like identity politics, environmental concerns, representations of marginalized groups, and the impact of globalization, the paper sheds light on the region's cultural resilience and ongoing efforts to preserve its heritage amidst change. Exploring these dynamics can provide valuable insights into:
The evolving nature of folklore: How traditional narratives are being reinterpreted and redeployed to address contemporary concerns.
The role of folklore in navigating social and political complexities: Understanding how marginalized voices and contested identities are articulated through folklore.
The intersection of folklore and environmental consciousness: Examining how traditional knowledge and practices embedded within folklore inform efforts towards ecological sustainability.
The impact of globalization on cultural preservation: Analysing how folklore serves as a tool to navigate the influx of outside influences while safeguarding cultural integrity.
By delving into these areas, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of Northeast India's cultural landscape and its ongoing efforts to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
