Impact Of Contract Enforcement On Data Compliance In IDC Subsidiaries Across Different Jurisdictions

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine whether there is a correlation between data compliance and the severity of contract enforcement in the countries where International Data Corporation (IDC) operates. Roughly one hundred and seventy-seven legal professionals and employees of the IDC filled out questionnaires as part of a quantitative research strategy. The results of the study, which relied on logistic regression and Chi-Square testing, showed that there was no statistically significant association between the degree of compliance and the rigour with which contracts were enforced. The study did find that tougher enforcement is likely to lead to fines for noncompliance. These numbers show that regulatory fines are significantly affected by strict enforcement, independent of whether or not enforcement affects compliance behaviour. This research improves data security and contract enforcement by highlighting IDC affiliate issues. The small sample size and self-reported data make the study problematic. To further understand compliance, future studies should include industry and organisational culture studies.
