Abstract

Cephalosporin drugs like  cefixime, Cefadroxilhave shorter half-lives i.e., 3.0 hrs. and 1.5  hrs. respectively. The dosing of cefixime is 200 mg twice a day for 7-10 days and the dosing of Cefadroxil is 500 mg twice a day. To decrease the dose frequency the present study of formulation of floating tablets of cefixime and Cefadroxil was needed. Systematic studies were conducted with various levels of concentration of eudragit S100, eudragit RL PO, eudragit RS PO, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid to optimize cefixime floating tablets and eudragit RL PO, eudragit RS PO, sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid to optimize Cefadroxil floating tablets. All formulations were evaluated for the different Physico-chemical characteristics. The Formulations gave satisfactory results for various evaluation parameters like angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, compressibility index, hausner’s ratio. There is no significant difference between the IR patterns of the optimized formulations and to that of the respective pure drugs.
