Abstract

INTRODUCTION. There is concern on peptic ulcer disease and its consequences on health among adults who lacks knowledge and awareness on medical field. Due to existence of variation of symptoms along with many gastric illness including peptic ulcers such as dyspeptic symptoms, diarrhea and vomiting raised concern of conducting research on awareness on the risk factors and prevention methods of peptic ulcer disease among adults.

AIM. Main aim of this research was to assess the level of awareness on risk factors and prevention methods of peptic ulcer disease among adults living at Greater Noida

METHODOLOGY. Descriptive cross section study design and simple random sampling technique was used to obtain data through semi structured questionnaire to 138 estimated sample size of adults living at Greater Noida. Field data were collected and analyzed by using SPSS software/Microsoft excel software, charts and graphs.

BUDGET. The budget to this research was 10,000 INR  which was provided my sponsor.

RESULTS. A total of 138 adults were involved in this research making a total of 100% of desired sample to be involved, there were 66 men and 72 women corresponding to 48% and 52% respectively. Majority of them about 87% were much aware on peptic ulcer disease. From the field all age groups were seem to be at risk for 44% associated with stress as main precipitant for 31% poor diet, alcohol and tobacco making second and third lead respectively. Awareness on prevention method was excellent for 78% of adults who insisted abstaining from stress, alcohol use, poor diet to be pillars of safety. Prevention and treatment methods were well entrapped by majority of adults up to 40% regards special medication while 37% of them recommend life style modification. Still myths on herbal medication with peptic ulcer disease about 9% of the enrolled participants.

CONCLUSION. Although great efforts have been made to address peptic ulcer disease awareness among the communities more improvements are needed for maximum safety. Still some are not aware of peptic ulcer disease risks involved and associated complications, preventive methods also should be emphasized.
