Abstract

Background: WHO identifies adolescence as the period in human growth and development that occurs after childhood and before adulthood, from ages 10 to 19 years.1 Today there are 1.2 billion adolescents, worldwide. Nearly 90 per cent live in developing countries

Objectives

  1. To assess the eating behaviours of the adolescent girls.
  2. To assess the nutritional status of the adolescent girls.
  3. To find the association between the eating behaviours and nutrition status of the adolescent

Research methodology: A Descriptive research study was used to the present study. The data was collected from 84 adolescent girls through convenient sampling technique using self structured questionnaire.

Results: The study revealed that 25( 29.96%) adolescent girls were under weight , 20(23.80%) girls were normal weight , 20(23.80%) were over weight and 19 (22.61%) were obese . 39(46.57%) were having good eating behaviour where as 45(53.57%) girls were having good eating behaviour. Mean was 22.35 ; Median was 20.5; Mode was  16; Range was 20 ;Standard deviation was 9.46. The place of residence only shows the significant association between the eating behaviour and nutritional status at 0.05 level.

Conclusion: The findings of the study acknowledged that there were more poor eating behaviour noticed among the adolescent girls .
