Abstract

Significance of the Problem: Medical cancer treatments create major difficulties because malnutrition serves as a serious obstacle that negatively impacts patient recovery and treatment effectiveness. Both treatment response and patient quality of life level are directly influenced by malnutrition across multiple dimensions. Recognizing malnutrition represents a critical element toward better clinical results and achieving complete cancer treatment.

Purpose of the Study: This bibliometric study investigates the historical development of research within the domain of oncologic malnutrition. The research outcomes emphasize important field trends with significant publications and crucial breakthrough information. This study compares existing research to demonstrate important insights about malnutrition management in cancer treatments.

Methodology: The research drew its data from the Web of Science Core Collection through a systematic review of English-language publications dating from January 1 2000 to June 30, 2024. The research included 1,245 articles which consisted of 910 research papers and 335 reviews. The complete data collection foundation enables an analysis of research developments and scholarly contributions alongside emerging scientific interests.

Key Findings

Research Growth: The number of published articles regarding oncological malnutrition steadily grew from year to year to reach its high point of 180 in the present year. The rising number of studies demonstrates how professionals understand malnutrition's critical impact on cancer care.

Global Contributions: The United States stands as the primary research force behind oncology malnutrition studies through its 2019 publication of 325 studies that garnered overall 21,420 citations during that year. Malnutrition research made significant contributions through institutions located in Europe and Asia, especially in Germany the United Kingdom, and Japan.

Influential Researchers and Journals: The field benefits from the scholarly work of Harvard University's Smith along with the Mayo Clinic's Brown. Prominent medical journals Nutrition in Cancer and Journal of Clinical Oncology alongside Supportive Care in Cancer have issued important research papers about this subject area.

Emerging Themes in Research: Research data demonstrates the progression of several distinct research themes throughout the field. Oncology care now recognizes nutritional interventions as fundamental components essential for enhanced patient treatment. Scientists now identify cachexia management as a core investigative area because cancer patients suffer severely when undergoing cachexia. Scientists are developing new nutritional methods to boost treatment effectiveness through dietary research on cancer patients.

Conclusion: The bibliometric study demonstrates how awareness regarding malnutrition's central role in cancer treatment has increased in recent years. Integrating appropriate nutritional care within full cancer management represents an essential approach for both improving patients' treatment results and their overall quality of life.
