Tourism development plays a pivotal role in enhancing local economies and cultural preservation, yet disparities in resource allocation and promotional efforts often leave certain communities overlooked. This research investigates the case of Ailawng village in Mizoram, India, where despite possessing significant natural and cultural attractions, local dissatisfaction with tourism development initiatives persists. The study focuses on banners displayed during the annual Anthurium Festival at nearby Reiek village, which voice grievances from Ailawng's community organizations. Through content analysis of these banners and qualitative interviews with stakeholders including villagers, NGOs, the research identifies key themes of neglect and unmet expectations. Findings reveal specific demands for infrastructure improvement and promotional support for attractions such as Vaipuanpho Falls, Taimama Puk, Leisang Kurung, and Khuangchara Puk. The implications highlight the need for equitable tourism policies that consider and engage with all potential tourist destinations within Mizoram. This study contributes to the discourse on community-driven tourism development strategies and calls for inclusive practices that empower local communities in shaping their tourism futures.
