Abstract
One benefit of using floating drug delivery systems is that they can maximize oral absorption of medications with a narrow absorption window by releasing the drug gradually over an extended period of time. It solves the problems with the traditional oral drug delivery system. With the aid of gaur gum and sodium alginate, a novel floating in situ gelling system was developed and evaluated with the goal of providing ciprofloxacin for gastric ulcer treatment with sustained drug delivery. The help of different polymer like gaur gum and sodium alginate Dissolving various concentrations of gelling polymers, such as gaur gum and sodium alginate, in deionized water at 70°C resulted in the preparation of in-situ gelling systems. Add a set dosage of medication after cooling to less than 40°C. Once cooled, gradually add CaCO3 while stirring constantly. The drug content was found to be between 93.3% and 99.7%, with a floating lag time of less than two minutes and a floating time of less than twelve hours for all formulations. The pH range for all formulations was 7.6 to 7.36. It was found that as the concentrations of polymers increase, so does the viscosity of the solution. Up to 12 hours of in vitro drug release was observed in the range of 82.11 to 96.13. Formulation F8 demonstrated the highest drug release (0.5% w/v gaur gum, 0.5% w/v sodium alginate). The stability studies of F8 formulation at 3 months at room temperature will be stable for initial stage formulation after 3 months F8 formulation stable at room temperature. Ciprofloxacin is a novel way to improve patient adherence, provide local action with fewer doses and longer drug residence times in the stomach.
