Abstract

Probiotics is defined as “live microbial feed supplements which when administered in adequate amount beneficially help the host by improving its microbial balance. Apart from common probiotic sources, such as curd , yogurt, other dairy and fermented food products, there are many other source from which probiotic organism can be isolated, one among them are gut microbiota of fish and animals. It has been well documented in several investigations that lactic acid bacteria and many other good bacteria are a part of the native microbiota of aquatic animals that can survive gastric acid environment and exert many beneficial effects. This study was aimed to isolate probiotic bacteria from Fish gut and prove their probiotic capacity by invitro characterization testing, so that those isolated strains serve as new potent probiotic. In this study, 36 Isolates were obtained from tested fish samples, out of which 5 isolates were selected for further study that is Probiotic Characterization. Out of 5 isolates, Isolate 4 and Isolate 5 showed better probiotic capacity in invitro study. Therefore the findings in this study suggest that isolated bacteria have high potential probiotic capacity. Thus these isolates can be further studied by molecular characterization (other high level invitro and invivo testing) to use them as an alternative potential source of probiotic which has been isolated from fish gut samples for commercial purposes in future.
