Ozone Therapy as An Adjunct to Adjunct to Mechanical Debridement on Non-Surgical Management of Periodontitis- A Systematic Review

Abstract

An inflammatory condition known as periodontitis is caused by oral biofilm destroying the tissues that support teeth. Recent developments in the molecular sciences and high-throughput gene sequencing technology have made it possible to reclassify periodontitis as the clinical result of an ongoing dysbiosis of the oral microbiota.(5)
The mechanical removal of pathogenic plaque and calculus by scaling and root (SRP) is the cornerstone of non-surgical periodontal care. Due to the pathogenic bacteria's presence in the dental and gingival tissues as well as other areas that are difficult for periodontal instruments to access, SRP may not be enough to eradicate them on their own. It is recommended to use systemic or local antibiotics and antiseptics to enhance the outcomes of periodontal therapy. (6)
