Abstract
Background: The level of fatigue was higher from the first week following childbirth to the sixth week than it was during the three months that followed. The postpartum mother needs to reduce the level of fatigue.
Introduction: Postpartum fatigue, which is an adaptive response to childbirth, must be distinguished from weariness and is caused by a complex interaction of physical, emotional, environmental, and physiological factors [1]. Postpartum fatigue has generally been shown to start as soon as a baby is born and get worse over time, so that within 36 hours of giving birth, postpartum mothers consider fatigue to be a problem, and it keeps getting worse through the first 6 weeks [2].
Material and Methods: A quantitative research approach and experimental research design was used on 58 early postpartum mothers. Simple random sampling technique was used, and 29 mothers were divided into control and study group each. Study was conducted at Krishna Hospital Karad received four days aroma inhalation with fragmented lavender oil necklace to study group and control group received routine care. Self-structured fatigue scale was used to assess the fatigue, and data was analyzed by using descriptive and Inferential statistics.
Result : In study group the pretest score before giving intervention that was aroma inhalation with lavender oil neckless 20(69.0%) of mothers were having sever fatigue, 7(24.1%) of mothers having moderate fatigue, and 2(6.9%) of mothers were having mild fatigue. In the post test after four days of intervention with lavender oil neckless the score was 26(89.7%) of mothers were having mild fatigue, 3(10.3%) of mothers were having moderate fatigue. The study group Mean ± SD fatigue score was higher in the pre test as compared to post test score, but in control group posttest Mean ± SD fatigue level was higher as compare to mother from study group. Aroma inhalation with lavender oil neckless was an effective to reduce fatigue among postpartum mothers in early postpartum period (p < 0.001).
Conclusion: The study concluded that there was a significant difference was found in the level of fatigue aroma inhalation with lavender oil neckless was an effective to reduce fatigue among postpartum mothers in early postpartum period.
