BACKGROUND: Fall is the major problem in older adults. Reduced physical performance, lower extremity muscle strength, and postural balance are only few characteristic linked to higher risk of fall. Subject with risk of fall have some balance and co-ordination loss. Recent studies shows that low level-blood flow restriction training has more positive effect on fall.
OBJECTIVE: To find out the combined effect of balance training along with co-ordination exercise to prevent risk of fall in elderly population
METHODS: 30 subjects were allocated randomly into two groups. Group A-15 (KAATSU,Balance and co-ordination exercise) and group B-15 (Balance and co-ordination exercise).12 weeks of intervention were provided. Both group were assessed using outcome measures like BBS, TUG.
RESULTS: Statistical Analysis was done by unpaired‘t’ test and paired‘t’ test for the between group and within the group respectively. The mean values and SD of group A and Group B of BBS is 15.00±6.78 and 11.13±6.17 and the mean values and SD of group A and Group B of TUG is 7.47±2.03 and 5.73±2.05 respectively. Within the group analysis of group A and group B (BBS) the mean value and SD is 31.86 ± 4.47 and33.33 ± 3.85. The mean and SD of TUG of Group A 14.73± 2.66 and 7.26 ± 1.67 and the mean and SD of TUG of group B 14.60±2.47 and 12.93±2.96
CONCLUSION: The present study showed that 12 weeks intervention of kaatsu training, balance along with co ordination exercise (GROUP A) shows more significant improvement combined with prevention and treatment when comparing the group B among older population
