Abstract

A prevalent health concern in India, especially among teenage females, is Iron Deficiency Anaemia, or IDA. The purpose of this research was to determine if the homoeopathic remedy Ferrum Phos 6X was useful in treating IDA. Materials and Methods: adolescent girls were screened for Hb levels using a portable haemoglobinometer at four different school centres. Adolescent girls with Hb levels ≤11.9 g% and ≥8 g% were investigated for IDA by red cell count, MCV, PCV, MCH and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC). It single blind cross over clinical trial, we have given Ferrum phos 6X to one group (Group-A) and another group have given placebo (sugar of milk) for 9 months (Group-B). After 9 month we have switch the groups (i.e. Group-B has received Ferrum Phos 6X and Group– A has received placebo (sugar of milk) for next 9 months). Results: 33 adolescent girls were screened were identified to have Hb between ≤11.9 g% and ≥8 g% and given consent. Significant increase in Hb was seen in girls with FP group. Increase in Hb in other groups (Placebo) was not significant. Conclusion: FP has a potential to improve Hb levels in girls with no side effects.
