Abstract

Title: A descriptive study to assess the personality development level among the foster home children from selected foster homes of Pune city.

Introduction: Personality development is a critical aspect of an individual’s growth and well-being, influencing how a person interacts with others, adapts to challenges, and perceives the world. Foster children, who are defined as those who have lost one or both parents, often face social, emotional, and psychological challenges due to the lack of parental guidance, support, and affection. Objectives: 1. To assess the personality development level among the foster home children. 2. To find out the association between personality development level among the foster home children with their selected demographic variables.

Aim of the Study: The main aim of the study was to a descriptive study to assess the personality development level among the foster home children from selected foster homes of Pune city.

Methodology: In view of the nature of the problem selected for the study and objective to be accomplished descriptive research approach was considered. The accessible population in this study where significant children who the age group from 14-17 years old and who were present on the day of data collection.

Result: Result showed (60 %) of orphan children were in the age group of 15-17 years. Most of them were male (58.3%) the Majority (40.3%) of them were from secondary school education.  Majority (60.7%) of them were Hindu religion. Majority (71.3%) of them were orphans children stay more than 3 year in home. majority of 40% of the children scored in the low range for emotional stability, 55% of the children scored in the low range for social adaptability, 45% of children scored in the low range for self-esteem and self-confidence, 50% of the children scored in the low range, suggesting difficulties in coping, 40% of the children scored in the low range for openness to experience. Conclusion: The study concluded that there has been a Personality Development Scale indicates that while a significant portion of foster children faces challenges in emotional stability, social adaptability, and self-esteem, there is also a notable number who demonstrate positive personality traits.
