Abstract

Background of the study: This research study demonstrates that Ethiopian middle-distance athletes exhibit varying effects of aerobic and anaerobic training on specific haematological parameters, such as red blood cells, haemoglobin, white blood cells and platelets. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of both anaerobic and aerobic training regimens on middle-distance athletes affiliated with various sports clubs in Ethiopia.

Methodology: The research utilized a quasi-experimental design with a total of 60 male participants, divided into two groups: 30 individuals engaged in aerobic training and 30 in anaerobic training. Both groups focused on middle-distance events, specifically the 800 meters and 1500 meters. Each group underwent a standardized training regimen over a period of 12 weeks. Pre- test and post-test measurements for various haematological variables were taken between 6:00 A.M. and 8:00 A.M. The data analysis was conducted using Analysis of variance.

Results: In the haematological variables such as red blood cells (2.42*), haemoglobin (4.07*), white blood cells (5.38*) and platelets (2.69*) has proved that there is significant difference in pre & post-test aerobic training and for the anaerobic training, variables such as red blood cells (7.71*), haemoglobin (1.15), white blood cells (0.27) and platelets (2.67*). Excluding haemoglobin and white blood cells the other variables shows a significant difference. It was hypothesized that the haematological variables red blood cells  and platelets shows a  significant changes among the male middle distance athletes in  both aerobic and anaerobic training at 0.05 level of confidence

Conclusion: During the aerobic training the haematological variables such as Red blood cell, haemoglobin , white blood cells and platelets  shows a positive effect whereas anaerobic training results indicates that white blood cell and haemoglobin  has no effect among the male middle distance athletes in Ethiopia.
