Depression is a major cause for premature death and disabilities throughout the world. The high prevalence of suicide is closely associated with depression. Every person usually suffers with depression during their life time. But the degree may be from mild to severe.

Method: The research approach used for the study was descriptive survey approach and the research design selected for the study was non experimental descriptive research design.

In the main research study convenient  sampling method was used to choose 50 nurse samples. To evaluate nurses' attitudes and expertise about managing depressed patients, a standardized questionnaire was employed. Regarding knowledge, the reliability coefficient was 0.78, while for attitude, it was 0.96. Knowledge and attitude were shown to have a reliable correlation value of 0.86.

Results : Both descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to the data analysis process. The attitude category had a mean score of 15.61 with a standard deviation of 5.77, and the knowledge category had a mean score of 14.33 with a standard deviation of 5.61. The majority of nurses (60%) showed inadequate knowledge, and the majority (56%) showed an unfavourable attitude toward the management of patients with depression, according to the study's findings. The computed coefficient of correlation value (r) indicated that there was a substantial association between and attitude. Significant at the 0.05 threshold was 957. This implies that nurses who performed worse on the knowledge assessment also performed worse on the attitudes section.

Conclusion :The study's conclusions make it abundantly evident that nurses' attitudes were negative and their knowledge of patient management was found to be insufficient and its manage. There should be more studies conducted related to knowledge and attitude of nurses and guidelines should be provided in every hospitals regarding depression and its managements.
