Abstract

objective of the study was to check the effect of plyometric training on agility, speed and anaerobic power of soccer players.
Methodology: for the purpose of the study the sample was drawn from Lakshmibai National college of Physical Education, Thiruvananthpuram, India. A total, 20 male football players, having at least one year of playing experienced at Inter-College, District or State level tournaments, were chosen as the subjects for the study. The subjects were randomly assigned to experimental groups and a control group to assess the anaerobic power, agility and linear speed.
Results: The ANCOVA results demonstrated significant effects for each variable when accounting for pre-test scores. For linear sprint, the group effect was significant (F (1, 17) = 13.992, p = 0.002, η² = 0.451), indicating a substantial improvement in the experimental group. In anaerobic power, the group effect was similarly significant (F (1, 17) = 8.863, p = 0.008, η² = 0.343), suggesting that the experimental intervention contributed to enhanced anaerobic power. For agility, the group effect approached significance (F (1, 17) = 4.539, p = 0.048, η² = 0.211), indicating a modest improvement in agility for the experimental group.
Conclusion: the study demonstrates that plyometric training can significantly improve linear speed, agility, and anaerobic power in football players, suggesting its effectiveness as a targeted training intervention.
