Abstract
Autoimmune disorders are painful diseases resulting from malfunctions of the body's intricate immune system. The immune system generally responds to infections by provoking temporary inflammation that will destroy the invading cells. In autoimmune diseases, this response persists to cause chronic pain and immutable damage to tissues in that region. Since the exact causes of the disorders are unknown, they mostly have periods of remission and flare-ups. The diagnosis of autoimmune diseases may prove to be very difficult since symptoms of different disorders, as well as those of the same disorder in different individuals, may vary greatly. This article overviews some autoimmune diseases, including inflammatory myopathies, and defines autoimmune disorders as well as briefly explains immune responses. The article also highlights the rare conditions, discusses potential contributing factors to their increasing prevalence, and reviews current therapeutic approaches. Through this exploration, we aim to enhance our understanding of these unique disorders and outline future research directions in the field.
