Colocasia esculenta - An Important Medicinal Plant of India

Abstract

In the current world, medicinal plants play an important role across the globe because of their significant properties and one foremost plant is Colocasia esculenta, which is known since ancient times through its wide application. Since C. esculenta has been widely used in India at different parts for consumption, either leaves or roots to prepare a traditional dish and also reported many of the ayurvedic practitioner their importance in treatment of many of diseases in India. Plant parts exhibit various metabolites, it is extensively worked by many of the researchers, data reviewed narratively in this study to emphasize more approach on their ethnobotanical, medicinal and its germplasm conservation. Hence, this review article may helpful to future researchers to undertake and explore more on the molecular level with an immense strategy of conservation of such species.
